Lisbon 2
Ross O’Carroll-Kelly gave me an LOL moment..
(his father talking)
“There’ll be a re-run,” he goes, “you mark my words. Libson II. Or what’s this Hennessy’s calling it – very funny – the Ah Come On Stop Acting The Bollocks Treaty.”
hee hee.
Update: Thanks to Andrew for pointing me towards that McCarthy article in the Trib. Best thing written.

This is the very first time Ross O’Carroll-Kelly made me laugh. And what a laugh. Classic stuff!

Justine McCarthy’s article ‘Have we fanned the flames of an EU fire?’ in Sunday’s Tribune was the best of the million ‘what now?’ articles I’ve read.

A friend in the UK rang me to ask what was going to happen about the Lisbon treaty. I told her that, since our constitutional, domocratic vote had got the “wrong” result, there would probably be another vote (and another and another) until we get it “right”.
She said “that sounds a bit Zimbabwaean”.
I almost laughed.

I was explaining to a colleague in the US about Nice 2. He was disbelieving. “What? Like a Do-Over?” Sure!!

Be assured the little snake that Sarkozy is will demand one. He is used to getting his way by bullying.

Hey, bring it on. I know several shame-faced No voters who are eager for the next vote.

And I know several Yes voters who will vote No next time.

Why is there an assumption that if there’s a second referendum, everyone will be compelled (by Eurocrat mind control rays, presumably) to vote Yes?
If you voted No the first time and haven’t changed your mind, then vote No again!
Before the last referendum, the No side couldn’t get enough of referendums. They whinged endlessly about how no-one else in Europe was getting one.
Now we’re getting another referendum (because we’re special, obviously) and they’re up in arms again.
There’s no pleasing some people.

I’m writing from the other side of the pond & I’m not an Irish citizen, so, bear with me if this is way off target.
About the Lisbon vote, I was thinking that projects from multinational European companies, projects like Shell to Sea but not only Shell to Sea, could have led some Irish voters to be saying “Enough already with this all-across-Europe business. This isn’t necessarily so good for us.”
