There can be no doubt that, when physical violence or the frowning of a lifetime are not available options, a good put down is hard to beat for puttting someone in their place.
Well done, Andrew. Your well thoughtful and considered reposte to Sarah’s endeavours is truly worthy of comparision with some of the better quips of Oscar Wild. How Cathal O’Searchaigh must have wished for your razor sharp wit, your rapier like intellect, when his old friend pointed a camera at him and accused him of being a pervert.
There is just one thing I feel I should bring to your attention.
If your wonderfully crafted put down is to have its full effect it is important to get the spelling and grammar correct. Therefore the comment should read ‘Why do you bother with this blog. It’s a waist of cyberspace.’
I’m not sure I get the reference to Sarah’s waistline. Perhaps you might expand on this point.
I’ve loads of posts in my head these days but little energy. But am on the vitamin B and acidophilus. So hopefully will be bothering more in a little while and annoying the Andrews (but not the Andrew Lawlors).
Madam, – The shrill response of Independent News & Media to the “destabilising” advances of Denis O’Brien makes me laugh.
It is not long ago since INM relentlessly pursued the fledgling eircom.
The campaign spearheaded by the business editor of the Sunday Independent completely destroyed shareholder confidence in that company.
In exploiting the fears and inexperience of novice shareholders he reduced successive eircom agms to the level of pantomime farce.
For good measure the same bewildered investors were forced soon afterwards to sell their interests in the beleaguered (though debt-free) telco to a consortium led by the employer of that self-same business editor of the Sunday Independent.

Did anyone see Gavin O’Reilly on tv the other night? He’s an even bigger pillock than his auld lad. If that’s possible.

From yesterday’s Times letters page:
CONFLICT OVER INM
What goes around comes around. – Yours, etc,
CIARÃN O’HIGGINS, Keatingstown, Wicklow.
