What a difference a day makes
Driving home from town last night and past all the road works at Liffey Valley I saw a sign flashing “Oct 13th N4 closed 12am-7am”.
Eeek. I’d be back in town on Saturday night – how would I get home? I reported to mother who said “but Oct 13th 12am is Friday night – not Saturday night, you are grand”. Of course! Perfect. I was safe. Still, thought I’d check.
Rang the roadworks freephone number and asked if the closure was taking place on Oct 13th 12am-7am ie Friday night Saturday morning OR Oct 14th 12am-7am which is Saturday night Sunday morning. It is the Saturday night. I told yer woman the sign was wrong. She said they’d ring me. What are the odds?

The sign is a shambles regardless, simply by the use of AM with the date. They should do 24 hour clock i.e. give the closure as Oct 13 0000-0700 which would clearly indicate the Fri night-Sat morning OR Oct 14 0000-0700 which apparently is what they actually mean. 24 hour clock would have forced them to think about it.
