The Sopranos

Hmmmmmm

Amazing build up tension. I think he wins. Threats everywhere, but he wins.

And then. AND THEN, no bloody music? I thought the telly was broken. It wrecked my buzz.

Apparently that was the point. But the first time ever they got too clever clever.

Gosh, much to absorb.

Thought the tv was broke too….think it was a cop out. At one stage I was thinking this is a bit too convenient if it ends with a wipeout hit….then when it ended the wway it did….total copout!

Checking in to see what you thought. We had the finale here a few weeks ago. You will find that you’ll still be thinking about it tomorrow. Was he whacked? Is it “lights out” like he and Bobby Bacala talked about in the boat? Was the dude at the counter going to get the gun in the bathroom in a nod to another Mob movie? Is it a peek into how Tony has to live, watchful always? You can concoct your own ending

The ending will grow on you. I promise :)
    Did you like the cat?

    Oh my Goddddddd!!

for years i have been critical of American movies and their “happy ever after” endings.

now we have a genuinely realistic ending to the best series ever, and i’m totally frustrated, and i shouldn’t be, coz this is what life is supposed to be like, no trite endings, etc

Was it just a “cut to black”, or did Tony’s lights finally go out??

It was so brilliant, yet frustrating, artistic, existential.

Let’s hope that it never is resurrected.

Just remember it for what it has been, and start watching it from series 1 all over again. Maybe there is some clue as to what to make of the ending……..

I loved the ending. I thought it was beautifully constructed and enigmatically perverse. The sheer build up of tension in the restaurant was amazing and then….nothing. Only The Sopranos would have the balls to end on such a low-key note. It defied everyone’s expectations and left plenty of room for conjecture and analysis.

The Sopronos is probably the best TV series ever and I think the ending was beautiful. They were never going it go down the standard route and give you an ending that you expected. Absolute genius.

On a side note, I also loved the plot for the movie – Anti-Virus – that AJ is working on: a private detective gets sucked into a computer and has to solve the murder of some virtual prostitutes. A classic, just like Cleaver.

Yeah, agree with all you say.

BTW, Which data-port was he/she sucked in to. Tony mentioned a “data-port”.

I think this gives a pretty good interpretation of what the “cut to black” meanz.

my favourite theory is that Tony was killed as soon as he walked into the diner, and the final scenes are a dream sequence of Tony imagining his perfect life with all his family around him….. and if anyone organised it was the Patsi Paresi plank… because his son… (meadow’s boyfriend) was the only person who knew they were in that restaurant….

notice him calling his son over at Bobby’s funeral…. and how much tony hated him at the house when his wife was telling the long face joke..

there was a holy communion / last rites thing going on with the onion rings too…

Pauli and the cat had me in stitches.

anyway… i’m never watching telly again (apart from sport) cos nothing will ever match the last 8 years.

good theory but if Tony dies then theres no film and I just bet there will be a film

as far as i read…. James Gandolfini has no intention of ever playing Tony again… but then…..”are you going to turn down life changing money… a package to leave to your cousin… who has MS”

    Hi Jane

“my Tuesday nights we never be the same”

a full two nights of anticipation/preparation/etc. A very Catholic thing!!

    :) :)

Paul, that’s a very fine theory, full of all the stuff which made T and Co. great.

    No movie please Ton

re onion rings and last rites. Someone came up with the parallel of placing gold coins into the mouths of the dead before going up the River Styx…
did anyone take a look at Hillary Clinton’s take off??

    Eastgalwaywoman is so right :-)
I dreamt about it and have been pondering all day.
I agree with Adrian. It was amazing.
Killing him off would have been the cop out.
the sheer banality of the last scene mixed with the sinister overtones was perfect..because that’s life…….
