More good news!

Who would’ve thought..

we are getting an actual opposition

“Fine Gael is to reduce its co-operation with the Government in the Dáil in protest over Taoiseach Bertie Ahern’s treatment of the party since the general election, particularly his handling of the election of the Leas-Cheann Comhairle.

Under changes imposed this week, Fine Gael has refused to offer Dáil “pairs” that allow Government Ministers to be absent for votes, unless they are away on business vital to the State’s interests.”

About bloody time and all. Why should they get pairs so they can go off opening things?

And soon they might decide to abandon the negative approach to things and concentrate on coming up with a few decent policy initiatives themselves.

The buzz in FG is palpable these days. I despise the word confidence as it has been misused” so many times in recent years. By this is an example of FG’s new swagger!

It may be about time, but for it’s for selfish reasons.

Gee Cian, what are those reasons? The political advancement of their own party at the expense of their opponents? What a dastardly plan!!!!!

Depending on how you look at it, unfortunately or fortunately I think things should be done for the right reasons.

By what you’ve posted above, FG are going to refused to offer “pairs” not because offering them could be wrong on many bases, but in a tit for tat move.

It’s just another indication that they are an opposition for the sake of opposition, not for any greater good, not for the good of the people in or of the state, not for any good besides their selfish own interest.

The point in my first comment might have come accross better if it was phrased as follows…

It may be about time, but it’s a pity it’s for for selfish reasons.

well, it works for FF when they are in opposition. Morally you are right Cian. Things should be done for the “right” reasons but I am gone bitter and cynical and if the opposition has decided to make life difficult for the government, then fair enough.

With the sun finally shining on the Fine Gael party, isn’t it the grace of God that Graham Geraghty didn’t get elected in your neck of the woods Ms C? Based on latest revelations in the Examiner, there must have been a terrible danger of GG bashing poor Enda – who’s a harmless ould divil you know – with the silver service after tea in Buswells, or boxing poor Mick Ring’s ears for making funny noises when he’s ating rhubarb. ;)
