Recycling
The hoover (vaccum whatever) is broken. Just won’t switch on. Could be anything. Could be the plug, but its one of those stupid stuck on ones that you can’t check.
So now I have to get a new one.
Do I get to bring the old one back to Power City or whatever hell hole from whence it came?

Whoever you buy your new one from has to take back your old one.

It should be possible to check the fuse in the plug?
I know from experience that if you buy an item in Power City, you can bring the old one in and dump it in their skip.
Alternatively, there’s always the dustpan and brush?

Or you could cut the plug off and attach a new ‘DIY’ plug

You can bring the old electrical item back when you buy a new similar electrical item. But there will be a charge of about a fiver for the recycling. The new item doesn’t have to be bought in the place you originally bought the old one.
I’d say cut off the old plug and wire up a new one first. It might save some money.
Also, some vacuum cleaners have a habit of cutting out if they overheat, which can occur if you use a small attachment for a long time rather than a big sucky one! You might also like to change the bag (or empty it, if this is allowed in your model) in case it is too full when you’re working with it therefore causing cut out.
