The Dolly-Mixture Coalition

Posted in Domestic/Relationships at 9:20 pm by Sarah

Isn’t that what Dermot Ahern called any attempt by FG to form raindbow coalition with the support of independents?

But tonight Cowen says

“The Taoiseach’s objective, he said, from the outset was to provide a broad-based coalition that would have the support of the three parties and Independents.”

Sounds like a dolly mixture to me. Don’t you just love the fact that Michael Lowry is on board?

I wonder how the Greens will vote…

Sarah — would you have preferred if FF had left the Greens out?

Would you have preferred a FF, Independent, PD govenment to this one?

I like the way you can come up with labels and terminology to suit your own particular angle. The Greens will be voting for Bertie otherwise they would look like a complete shower of hypocrites.
It is far from a satisfactory situation to have them in Government but at least no concessions of any substance have been made to them. The important matters such as essential infrastructure, taxation and health will continue to be funded as before. If they behave in a responsible fashion this development can enhance their status considerably. At least they had the courage to do a deal against all the predictions. It has the potential to be a really good Government. Lets hope the economy continues to grow.

The Dolly-Mixture is Dermot Ahern’s phrase not mine.

So where is Gordon Davies? the M3 will be built as I said and no planes will be inspected at Shannon. The Greens are fab. Still, the ABA schools have to be recognised. Mary Hanafin won’t like that. Or she’ll find a way to stop it.

And why shouldnt the M3 be built, its a very badly needed route and it will facilitate lots of people from home and abroad who want to have a peep at Tara and surrounding area. All planes should be inspected regardless of where they are from. I suspect there will be more attention paid to this area alright. And as regards ABA schools and all the other wonderful services which are so desirable I have just one thing to say. People get the services they are prepared to pay for. The National Cake is limited in size and a balance must be struck on many badly needed services. People will not wear further taxation to fund education or health. Thats why reform and value for money is so essential.

Crewser, could you be a bit more specific when you speak about a period of uncertainty – do you mean the last few weeks or the last ten years? i’m not sure what you mean exactly.

The duration of the campaign and the non-issues being raised by the hapless opposition. But the people saw through them in the end and put things right.
