Good news and bad news

Posted in Feminism, Uncategorized at 3:43 pm by Sarah

Good news..

I love that the crew who bashed the US planes got off….I used to know one of the accused, Deirdre Clancy, in college. She seemd so quiet. I love the bit of civil disobedience and the fact that the jury approved of it…I liked this detail of the plane bashing

“Evidence was given that they were shouting “some words of God” and went to the front, side and rear of the aircraft, using the items to hit the plane. They then knelt in a circle and prayed until gardaí arrived to arrest them.”

Bad news (well actually don’t really care news but observation to be made anyway)

A link from an anonymous critic. I presume this is a criticism (she/he is talking about getting new talent on the radio)

judging by Sarah Carey, it’s not like you need any special training or anything.”

This could mean that I don’t NEED any special training cos I am inherently talented, but somehow I doubt it. It never ceases to amaze me that the critics are cowards who hide behind anonymity…so sure of themselves and their righteous views…and yet not. The most abusive comments on the blog are always made by people who to great lengths to hide their identities. The funny thing is, sometimes I get bored and would quite happily stop blogging, but then I can’t because I don’t want to please the assholes who abuse me…

Yeah, but that blog recommends giving Richard waghorne a radio show. Nothing would make me turn my mp3 player on faster.

    Hi Sarah,

Don’t worry about that blogger. It’s the same deluded stalker who has been setting up anonymous “watch” blogs to slander anybody to the left of Genghis Khan who appears in the media. None of their attempts so far have worked (indymedia ireland watch1 & 2, “vincenzo monologues”, “badman anhtem”). They’re struggling to find their ‘blogger voice’ and this is the latest slightly-more-subtle attempt.

All the blogs share many things in common – the use of doctored quotes, the flag-waving for the good ‘ol neo-cons, the lack of comment facilities (they always claim that this is a consequence of attacks but nobody except me reads them – I noticed that there had been a grand total of 0 comments on the entire blog when they were banned this time), the same old targets (Vincent Browne, Indymedia, Fintan O Toole, etc). The very same laughable claims of media bias and non-disclosure of affiliations. But the dead giveaway is that the stalker appears to be unaware of the fact that they are at the dribbling end of the bonkers scale.

The author also has some very interesting links to the Freedom Institute and a certain newspaper group. It’s not entirely suprising that they would like to see Waghorne on the radio either. Amusingly this particular comment really pushed the boat out to far though. Waghorne is ‘cute’ – since when have geeky looking gimps been cute?

I wouldn’t worry about any American 4×2 whinging about you on the radio.

Instead of whinging about you she should look to her own weapons grade whinging.

In one post she whined about the Irish being evacuated through the “terror capital of Damascus”. Now if she had read Series 2 of the Bible she would realise to a Christian the Road to Damascus is a good thing.

She fails to realise we Irish can go to these places in the Middle East because we don’t have a history of trying to blow the shite out of them.

Also on her blog when she makes a one-way comment about something she knows that she would get flamed for the comments are turned off.

Perhaps she should show a little loyalty and kindness to the country that she lives in now. We are not perfect and we can be criticised and by God we can be thick mucksavages when we want but being a bigoted Jewess doesn’t mean she is immune from criticism.

    Ignore her.

A link from an anonymous critic.

It crucifies me to have any kind of association with such a harpy, but she’s “pseudonymous” instead, shirley?

Hurrah! Thanks all. EWI – I confess to ignorance. I’ll have to go look up dictionary.com and see what the difference is…

d’oh! Of course! I am thick..one is none, the other is fake…

anonymous is “Having an unknown or unacknowledged name: an anonymous author”

pseudonymous “A fictitious name, especially a pen name”

Anyone else think his/her claims on Portobello as Little Jerusalem (harping back to ancient predomination of Jews in the area) was appropriately colonistic?

Voila! And I met some Irish bloggers recently (and very nice it was to see you all too), so even the ‘pseudonymous’ is looking a little stretched too…

Is that Ann Coulter or herself in the top right hand corner of the blog? A revealing confusion.

I think the original blogger has a point. Tom McGurk IS talentless. How much is he being paid by RTE? The guy is a joke as both a radio and television presenter, so it’s worth asking how exactly he got the job.

BTW what happened to the credit card bill?

  10. Sarah said,

    Hi Tom

What did you think of that post? I liked it at first and then I suddenly had visions of the comments assuring me that I was selfish middle class spoiled cow, so I took it down. And that maybe I was sharing too much. And that maybe I don’t need to blog so much about life. (I keep thinking of giving up altogether). I’ve been resisting the tempation to put things on the blog recently. Which does kinda short change the regulars but maybe blogging about everything, while entertaining in its own way and interesting in another (cos I like the different points of view)..maybe its not altogether healthy. Especially if I am going to be sensitive to the comments of people who won’t tell me their names..because when I said I didn’t care, actually I do. I don’t mind criticism, in fact, I normally seek it out, but from people who are qualified, or cleverer than me, or who care about me. The personal abuse from strangers does hurt, even if it shouldn’t. ( i don’t mean disagreeing on political points for example…Hezbollah are war mongerers just as much as Israel…but my sympathies lie with the people of Palestine and now Lebanon). Anyway……we’ll see….

oh and I know this makes me a big fat liar because a) I said I didn’t care about Manhattan notes when actually I do and b) I said I wouldn’t stop cos I didn’t want to please the critics but actually if I do stop it will be because of them.
and Freestater…see, the whole pseudonymous thing..I just don’t know about it. I think you will always get identified ESPECIALLY in Ireland…so you might write things because you think you aren’t known but then you will get known and have to answer for them. This is fine if its just politics..but if its personal you are doomed….

Hi Sarah, good reflections, well done, nice to see someone baring their soul.

BTW I thought your credit card bill analysis was interesting, voyeuristic for me, I don’t normally get a chance to do hear about others! I was mildly impressed that your Superquinn bill was so low, even if it was just a weekly shoping. I’ll have to talk to spousey!

    Sarah,
I think it would be a real shame if you stopped blogging. I know that posting about personal things can be tricky, because family or friends may read your blog and that definitely alters one’s freedom of expression, even if it is self imposed.
I agree, that within Ireland there is no hiding, it seems like everyone really does know everyone else, even if by just two or three degrees of separation (whoever said six didn’t take a look at Ireland as a special case). My view though is that whatever I say about myself personally, my views and whatnot, are just that, my personal views and beliefs. I am not going to change them to please anonymous commenters. Also, perhaps it’s wrong of me, but I just delete nasty anonymous comments. If they are happy to leave a name, mail address or link, I’m happy to take the criticism and leave it public for all to see.

I am touched. Well, maybe I’ll put back the credit card bill. I put it up originally because I thought it was very revealing. It says a lot about your life. But after the column..only 1/3 way through!

I tend to think of what I say when blogging and commenting on other blogs as the equivalent of a loud pub conversation that someone is videoing.

I disagree. The experience in the States is that McCarthyism is very much in vogue again, and we can already see the influence that such a mode of thought evidently holds over ‘certain’ bloggers.

    McGurk needs to be stopped.

The critic in question is a tit.

Credit cards are the best invention in the world ever. So long as you know how to use them. It always suprises me how people don’t read the T&C.

  23. Sarah said,

hmm I take your point about political blogs especially in the US. PO’Neill was saying something recently about how the right wing ones get pretty vicious….

Yeah with credit cards I have ALWAYS paid them off in full on the month regardless of how much. Overdrafts cheaper than credit card interest….

Believe me folks, it’s not a she and it’s not even remotely honest.

A fairly amusing post on it here:

    http://manhattannotes.blogspot.com/2006/08/dont-you-want-me-baby.html

Excerpt: “I’ve had it with comments on my blog and the abuse that goes along with blogging.”

followed by a sample of abusive comments.

The blogger-weirdo never allowed comments. It’s what’s known as viral black propaganda. I’ve seen a good bit of it before in a remarkably similar vein at the sites mentioned above.
