Holiday Plans

Posted in Sunday Times Columns at 9:29 pm by Sarah

I’m off on Friday for a long desired beach holiday in the Algarve. It’s a 5* hotel ON the beach, half hour from Faro, with all the restaurants and facilities I need within the grounds. Technically, its far beyond my budgetary capacity but after eight miserable grey wet months, I’m past caring about the overdraft. My sister is coming to assist with the children. There are kids clubs. I intend to:

- eat

- read

- sun bathe

- swim in the sea

- generally vegetate

and thus restore myself.

I will not:

- tour

- feel obliged to interact with natives

- buy or read a guide book

- check out great local restaurants.

- shop

I can’t wait. Nothing, except the heat on my skin, the invigorating power of the sea, the hot sand under my feet and catch up on reading.

This does mean that the blog will be quiet. I have submitted a column to the ST, although I developed the sun tanning theme and a dash of my contribution on The Last Word on Tuesday, so blog readers may not find much new material. There will be no column the following Sunday. Hope you can all cope with that ;-)

Have a good one! The Algarve is great, I was there last year – nice heat, same timezone as Ireland (as if you cared!) and of course they use the good old Euro!
