Denis Donaldson
A quick word about Denis. The poor fella. He looked absolutely terrified. And some of Adams’s euphemisms were a bit scary weren’t they? Donaldson was “interviewed” at Sinn Fein headquarters and “advised” to get a solicitor. That was some interview I’d say.

One unfollowed thread so far in all the revelations: do you think he’s gay? There’s a weird tone to his explanation and others’ explanation of it (“a vulnerable time in my life”)?

of course! I knew there was something funny about him!
And that would make him perfect for the Brits as there’s nothing like a bit of blackmail to motivate spies. I wonder did they get photos of him in a compromising position with someone even more compromising?

Consider for example this section of Liam Clarke’s excellent story in “your” newspaper:
Former IRA colleagues point to an occasion when the police raided a house in the Ligoniel area of west Belfast and found Donaldson, a married man, in bed with a local woman. Even that may be a cover story, however, because Donaldson’s wife Alice was told about what had happened by the police. Like many senior republicans in the mid-1980s, Donaldson seldom spent the night at home for fear of arrest or loyalist attack, and this provided many opportunities for extramarital liaisons.
One former IRA member said that he was a well known “chaserâ€Â, as it was known in Belfast. If so the police may have threatened to disclose other affairs; or perhaps this is yet another cover story thrown up by Donaldson to hide the deeper secrets of his double life.

cool. But why so covert? Why not just say it? It’s very strange.
